Background
What is lipedema?
Lipedema is a chronic disorder of the fatty tissue that affects almost exclusively women. Fat on the legs and hips, often also on the arms, increases evenly on both sides, while the hands and feet usually remain slim.
Typical signs are a feeling of tension and heaviness, pain on pressure and touch, and a tendency to bruise. The symptoms often begin at times of hormonal change, such as puberty, pregnancy or menopause. Diet and exercise have little effect on the affected fat deposits.
The basis of treatment is compression and exercise. Liposuction may be considered if the symptoms persist despite this treatment. Whether it is suitable is clarified in the consultation.
